Toshiba A200/Y01 Driver for XP
June 4, 2007 on 2:44 pm | In General | 26 Comments | 18,150 viewsMy friend bought a new Toshiba Satellite A200/Y01 notebook that comes with Vista OS. After playing for few hours, we were not satisfied with the performance and the compability of Vista. OS used over 500Mb of RAM with no user application loaded; some old applications did not work. So we decided to downgrade it to Windows XP…
Note: Personally I prefer Ubuntu but my friend need to run a lot of Windows applications, and Ubuntu+WINE is too complicated for him.
I had a look at Toshiba web site and found that there is NO XP driver for this notebook. I think that it is a business strategy rather than compatibility issues. So I decided to download from other places. I booted Ubuntu from CD, ran “sudo lshw†to get a hardware component list and downloaded suitable drivers. Unfortunately, some drivers did not work and I needed to do a lot of trial and error installation. Here are a final list of drivers that work:
Chipset 82801 – from Intel
I use INF Update Utility – Zip Format (2023KB) 8.3.0.1013 6/4/2007
Display 945GM – from Intel
I use Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver (zip) (17096KB) 14.29 4/20/2007
Wired Network – from Marvell
I use Yukon Windows XP/2003 x86, Windows XP, Server 2003 x86, 5/3/07, 10.14.6.3
You can also do a search from their product search page using Product Category = PC Connectivity, Product Family = Yukon, Platform = Windows XP.
Wireless Network – from Phoenix Networks
I use Atheros Driver – Ver. 5.0.0.107 (be careful, older version does not work)
For Modem, Sound, Card Reader & Touch Pad
Just download Vista driver from Toshiba
(Tohsiba links updated as suggested by Kent Reynolds – Thanks)
I cannot put a direct link to driver page as Toshiba put session data on the link. Please choose: SUPPORT -> DOWNLOAD CENTRE -> DRIVERS … -> Select Notebooks -> Satellite -> A200-(PSAF0A)->go
Modem – Modem, 2.1.77, Toshiba Software Modem, 1.26Mb, SA200-Mdm-2177-Vis32.exe
9.2 Mb, SA200-Mdm-2177-Vis32.exe Sat_A200_P200_Mdm_Vst_2177.zip
Sound – Sound, 6.0.1.5374, Realtek Sound Driver, 16.8Mb, SA200-SM200-RealtekHD-6.0.1.5406-Vis64-Vis32.exe
36.0 Mb, Sat_A200_P200_Snd_Drv_Vst_6015374.zip
Card reader – Special, 2.0.0.6, Texas Instruments Digital Media Card Reader, 6.14Mb, SP200 TI-2007-Vis.exe
5.0 Mb, Sat_A200_P200_TI_Crd_Rdr_Vst_2006.zip
TouchPad – Mouse, 9.1.14.0, Synaptics Touchpad Driver, 23.4Mb, SA200 SynapticsTPad-9114-XP.exe
11.6 Mb, Sat_A200_P200_Syn_TPad_Drv_Vst_91140.zip
Please note that the above Toshiba drivers are listed under Vista but can be used for XP.
Remark
When I boot Ubuntu from CD on this notebook, everything works smoothly. That’s one of the benefits of using Open Source Software. I have a feeling that some companies force user to use specfied OS by not having support to other OSs. I have an old IBM 50e, the driver support services are far more better.

wondering if a battery driver has been found for this notebook to run with xp pro sp2. Get the message “Windows could not load the installer for battery. contact your hardware vendor for assistance.” Any ideas welcome – Thanks

My friend’s notebook is now in other country. I will have a check for the battery driver after I see the notebook again in July, 2007.

I had the same problem, no xp driver support for the a200, but thanks to these guys http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=744154&p=3 I downloaded all the drivers from a user called zofod. Now my Toishiba works great with XP
Comment by sebas — 14 July, 2007 #
sebas – did you get the annoying battery driver warning on your a200? I should let you know that my A200 is a Y01 without the webcam. I hate that stupid battery warning that comes up because it still charges and it still runs without the AC adapter plugged in. Cant work it out aye.

All good RC – Ive sorted my problem. It was the version of XP I was trying to run. It was stripped down alot. Im now running an older version of XP Pro SP2 that works good with the given drivers. Battery message no longer appears and power options can still be adjusted via Control Panel. I hope they get some software to make the FN buttons work with XP. A bit pointless having them now.

I bought this notebook yesterday, the model is Satellite A200-PSAF0A, had the same problems can’t find the drivers after I installed the windows xp. then i found this website and follow the links, but non of them work, all come up with a message said that “the compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted”… can anyone help and send me the correct link? thanks.
Comment by Billy — 19 August, 2007 #
Hi Billy,
It looks to me that the zip file is corrupted out of unknown reason or the program that you use to unzip the file has a problem.
To isolate the problem, you may download the driver from another computer and unzip it. If you can unzip the driver, copy it back to you notebook to see if you can install it. – RC

Hi there poeples
Our Company brought same model Satellite A200-PSAF0A … after half an hour of trying Vista with our office LAN
(which caused more problems than expected)
We decided to down grade to XP
Thanks to this site and links proved managed to get most of the Laptop running again
Toshiba’s Canadian Site seems to have more XP drivers listed
Wireless Driver, Display (Intel) & Cardreader Driver
Although model no’s are different “PSAF0A” seem to be Aus and N.Z
With some help from Unknown Device Identifier (FREEWARE)programme
You can cut down on the guess work
Download and run app and all unknown devices appear were you can see manufacturers info etc
Recommend Deleting application after your got it sorted though ,every time I ran the app it would place a shortcut to its website on the desktop (Shame on them) but hey this little programme worked a treat
Again use at you own discretion !
Hope this helps ..happy hunting people
Cheers Jacob

I must say a very large thankyou!!!
Very dissapointed with vista, so much so it was really driving me to frustration!!! Just took a while to find the right drivers, due to the PSAF0A model….. being an NZ computer.
Once again, Thanks all

Hi doing a great job thanks. I had the same problem and decided to use kubuntu instead. How do I get the drivers for the linux system for this laptop?
Comment by Janine Melis — 8 July, 2008 #
I found this document to be very helpful and without it, I probably would have suggested an alternate solution for my client.
Just one update… It appears Toshiba now have links to *.exe files rather than the *.zip files required for the modem, sound, card reader and touch pad. These *.exe files (for Vista x86, 32bit) didnt work for me on my one attempt.
I would advise doing a search on the Toshiba site for the version number without any full-stops.
ie: 2177 for Modem, 6015374 for sound etc.
Im just ironing out some Fn key issues and then im done
